Better Energy

Solar partnerships

Better Energy aligns the interests of entities which, each from their own perspective, may benefit from a fixed, long term power price. Your roof can also be turned into a small power plant.

Solar power

The application of solar panels originates from the space industry and is now applied worldwide for terrestrial use.

Relevant techniques are evolving rapidly, with improvements being announced on a weekly basis. Where the price of traditional fuels is likely to rise due to depleting resources and higher exploration costs, the costs of solar energy products will keep declining, simply because of technical advancements.

Because of these continuing improvements, the costs of solar power keep declining: technique defines the costs because the infinite resource is free (sunlight).

The future

Moore’s law is the observation that over the history of computing hardware, the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles approximately every two years. Kryder’s law is the storage equivalent of Moore’s law and specifies that doubling of magnetic disk storage takes place every 18 months. Solar cells have increasing efficiencies (triple junction cells have already reached 40%) and the costs of the end products keep declining. In many European countries power price parity has been reached meaning that solar power has become cheaper for end users when compared to power purchased from the grid (which also includes taxes). In the Netherlands such is the case for consumers and SME’s and it is only a matter of time before declining component prices result in solar power prices that can compete with the prices that result from traditional centralised installations. In Spain this will be the case in 2013.
